Eternal Darkness

Reportedly, when Nintendo saw Silicon Knights' survival horror title at a trade show, they quickly set the wheels in motion to bring the company in as a second party. Development of Eternal Darkness continued on the Nintendo 64 for a short time before being ported to the GameCube as Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

The Nintendo 64 version seemed to contain at least one playable character who only appeared as a bit-part in the final game: a knight named DeMolay. There appear to have been many other chapters cut from the final game as well, suggesting that Silicon Knights intended the game to have further sequels. Unfortunately, these also failed to appear.

Wii Sports: Airplane

This title was shown as part of the 20 game line-up for the Wii at E3 2006. The rumor was that it would become a Pilotwings title. Many aspects of the game were later implemented in Wii Sports Resort.

Nintendo GameCube

Panel de Pon is a game included in Nintendo Puzzle Collection for the Nintendo GameCube, which is the finished version of the cancelled Nintendo 64 video game Panel de Pon 64. The cancelled version ended up being released as Pokémon Puzzle League, albeit it was rebranded and featured characters from the Pokémon anime instead of the traditional fairies from the Panel de Pon franchise.

A Nintendo 64 prototype is known to exist, but it is currently publicly unavailable.

Hack and slash/Beat 'em up

Project H.A.M.M.E.R.

A game that was originally announced at E3 '06 about a time when robots are taking over the U.S. The player was to take control of a character tasked with fighting them off. It has since been cancelled.

Diddy Kong Racing Adventure

Diddy Kong Racing Adventure is a rejected pitch made by the Climax Group for a Diddy Kong Racing sequel on the Nintendo GameCube around 2004. The project was never announced to the public in any capacity and only became known after an amateur video game archivist acquired the prototype and published a video about it in November 2016. Only the demo for their pitch was developed, in around April 2004, running on Xbox hardware as the tools had already been developed at the time.

Return of Donkey Kong

Nintendo Entertainment System

Return of Donkey Kong is a canceled Nintendo Entertainment System game whose existence is attested in Nintendo of America publications from 1987 and 1988. It was featured as an upcoming game in the Official Nintendo Player's Guide in 1987.

Not much is known about the title aside from the fact that it was considered a follow-up to Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Donkey Kong Jr. Math and Donkey Kong 3. The two blurbs describing the game suggest that barrel-throwing would return as a mechanic, and that Donkey Kong would appear as a playable character for the first time. No images were ever shown of the game and it is not known if Return of Donkey Kong ever existed past the conceptual stage.

Toon Panic was a multiplayer brawler / arcade fighting game for Nintendo 64, in development at Bottom Up. It was meant to be similar to Power Stone or Rakugaki ShowTime, but it was later cancelled because of bankruptcy of the studio.
