Polymega Collection Vol.17: Gunbird

Blast off into the golden age of arcade sci-fi shooters with this Polymega Collection DVD, headlined by PSIKYO’s legendary GUNBIRD. First unleashed in arcades in the mid-’90s, GUNBIRD helped define the studio’s signature style: fast, vertically scrolling action, razor-sharp bullet patterns, and a cast of eccentric characters brought to life with humor and personality. This collection lets you experience GUNBIRD in both its original Arcade form and its Saturn home release, alongside fan-favorite sequel GUNBIRD 2 (Arcade), preserving the intensity and charm that made PSIKYO a name synonymous with hardcore shoot-’em-ups.

Rounding out the package is a thoughtfully curated lineup of classic arcade and console titles, all playable on Polymega. Take to the skies with Exerion, Cybattler, Skyfox (Exerizer), and E.D.F., test your reflexes with the puzzle-shooter hybrid Gunbarich, and explore deeper sci-fi action in Second Earth: Gratia. The collection also bridges the arcade and console worlds with Earth Defense Force / Super E.D.F. and Operation: Logic Bomb (JP: Ikari no Yousai) for the SNES / Super Famicom. Exerion

Exerion is a vertical shoot 'em up released by Jaleco in 1983 and licensed to Taito for distribution in the United States.

Exerion is a shoot 'em up game featuring parallax effects and inertia simulation, something notable for 1983. The player travels around strange scenarios shooting aliens. The player has two types of guns: fast single shot (limited) or slow double shot (unlimited).

In 1984, along with the MSX1 port of the original, a sequel was released titled Exerion II: Zorni for the MSX1, with similar gameplay to the original. There were plans for an NES release of this game. In 1987, the game was followed by the semi-sequel titled Exerizer, also known as Sky Fox.

Jaleco Ltd. (株式会社ジャレコ, Kabushiki Kaisha Jareko) was a corporate brand name that was used by two previously connected video game developers and publishers based in Japan. The original Jaleco company was founded in 1974 as Japan Leisure Company, founded by Yoshiaki Kanazawa, before being renamed to simply Jaleco in the early 1980s. This company was later acquired in 2000 by PCCW, who rebranded it as their Japanese game division, PCCW Japan, before reverting it to Jaleco in 2002. In 2006, Jaleco became independent from PCCW and renamed to Jaleco Holding, having their video game operations spun off into a new company, also called Jaleco. This new spin-off company was sold to mobile developer Game Yarou in 2009, with Jaleco Holding renaming itself to Encom Holdings shortly after.
