Out of This World

Out of This World (Another World in Europe) is a cinematic platformer that uses vector-based graphics and rotoscoped animations to deliver a minimalistic yet expressive visual style. It features a combination of action, platforming, and puzzle-solving mechanics, with a deliberate lack of HUD and textual guidance. Gameplay emphasizes trial-and-error, timing, and exploration, with a limited checkpoint system.

In 2005, a homebrew port of the Atari ST version was released for the Game Boy Advance, officially allowed by Éric Chahi to be published with the original assets.

Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition

This is an updated version of Another World (also known as Out of This World) for the 20th anniversary of the original game. It is adapted for mobile devices offering both touch controls and a virtual D-pad. The backgrounds are reworked for higher resolutions with subtler shades of light, and crisper detail and edges to the polygons and animations. It is still possible to switch to the original graphics. This version also contains remastered sound effects and three difficulty modes.

Another World: 15th Anniversary Edition

Another World chronicles the story of a man hurtled through space and time by a nuclear experiment gone wrong. You assume the role of Lester Knight Chaykin, a young physicist. You’ll need to dodge, outwit, and overcome a host of alien monsters and deadly earthquakes that plague the alien landscape you now call home. Only a perfect blend of logic and skill will get you past the deadly obstacles that lie in waiting.

This version of Another World is based upon the port of mobile phones, adding better graphics and resolution. It also has the new areas and enemies from the console versions.

After the release of the first version for Amiga and Atari ST, some complaints about the short length of the game became known by the publisher, and the main developer created a new level to expand the game to the DOS and Macintosh ports.

The version of Out of This World (Another World) released for the SNES and Apple IIgs was ported by Interplay. This version was made more difficult, including more enemies, since it was normal for console games to be difficult in order to take longer to beat.

The American SNES version has a fair amount of censorship, including blood being painted green. The Apple IIgs version is basically the same as the SNES version, due to the similar hardware (without censorship).

The version of Out of This World (Another World) for the 3DO is very different from the other ports because of its own visual style, using rasterized graphics, which were criticized by the creator of the original version.

Delphine Software International was a French video game developer. They were famous for publishing Another World and creating the cinematic platform game Flashback, which bore a similarity to Prince of Persia, both in gameplay and in its use of rotoscoped animation. They were also known for their Moto Racer series.
The company closed down in July 2004 after bankruptcy and liquidation. Their official website has since shut down.

The Jaguar port of Another World was meant to be released by Interplay in 1994, but ended up being cancelled.

It was later updated and released version in 2013 and is playable in the original graphics 16-color mode and Deluxe 15th Anniversary graphics 256-color mode. It can be played in normal and speed-run modes.
