This pack combines Japanese-designed managerial game A-Train and its construction set add-on.

A-Train

You play the part of the head of a railroad company, with the aim of creating your own railroad empire, providing a successful mass transit system that will be an inspiration to the rest of the world. Another goal is to provide the impetus for your chosen city to develop. There are a number of different places to set up business each with different layouts and existing houses and businesses.

The main money earners are passenger trains, that can be scheduled to pick up passengers at the times of day when the demand is high. However, in the long term you need the city to develop. This requires setting up trains that transport resources to where they are needed. These resources are used to build houses, and other buildings, increasing the number of passengers for your commuter trains.

As the city develops, new businesses will spring up, such as stadiums, high rise office blocks, and ski resorts. You can also build your own businesses, the success of which will depend on the local population, the presence of competing businesses, and even the changes of the seasons, among other factors.

A-Train 8

As the owner of a brand new railway company, you must manage train schedules, develop new railways, construct buildings, and manipulate the stock market on your quest to earn one trillion dollars. Have you ever wondered what it's like to manage a railway company, or how trains can impact the fate of an entire city? The task will be fun, but not necessarily easy. Your company relies on the citizens for revenue, and the city needs your railway to function and thrive. If you fail to master this relationship, both your company and the city will face certain derailment. The future of the city is in your hands!

A6: A-Train 6

In A Train 6 your goal as a the head of a major transport company is to build up an effective railway network.

You will gain the main amount of your income by transporting passengers and cargo. It is also possible to earn money by buying and selling land, housing planning and developing the local industry. It is crucial to keep optimizing the schedules, in order to improve the cost-effectiveness of your transport network.

The game is completely in 3D and offers 40 trains, each with its individual advantages and disadvantages, such as speed, capacity and costs per mile. The game features a total amount of 80 buildings and allows you to play in 6 different scenarios, all of which include unique tasks and possibilities.

A-Ressha de Ikou: The 21st Century

Released on June 19, 2003, in Japan for Windows, this is essentially a rebadged PC version of A-Train 2001.

The Train Giant

The latest iteration of the A-Train series, A-Train 9 was released on February 11, 2010 in Japan, and on March 15, 2012 worldwide by UIG Entertainment under the names The Train Giant in English and Der Bahn Gigant in German.

It is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and 7, and is also compatible with the said 64-bit versions.

Two Japan-only building kits were released, the first on October 8, 2010 and the second on December 23, 2010. The Japan version also includes a 3D patch costing ¥1050 that can be played using 3D glasses, and the German version includes an unofficial patch that adds 200 trains to the game on top of the existing 11 trains.

A-Train 9 includes buses and trucks, grouped by distances they travel and the work they manage (e.g. intercity, local, heavy goods, etc.), power plants, Japanese castles and more authentic-looking Japanese buildings.

The game puts players in command of a railway company. There are no rival companies; the player controls the only one in the city and the game is resultingly fairly open-ended. A-Train III is the first game in the series to make use of near-isometric dimetric projection to present the city, similar to Maxis's SimCity 2000. There are two types of transport that the player's company can take: passengers or building materials. The former is more likely to be profitable, but building materials allow the city to grow. Wherever the building materials are delivered, they can be taken and used to construct buildings for the city. These start with houses, but eventually, as an area grows, roads, and shops and other buildings are built. These can provide extra revenue for a passenger service, but also allowing the city to develop and grow can be seen as a goal in itself. As well as the buildings built by the computer, in response to the materials being present, the player can construct their own buildings, such as ski resorts and hotels, and make profits from them if the conditions are right.

A-Train Construction Set

The A-Train Construction Set add-on for Maxis’ railroad management simulation A-Train is a map editor that allows modification of existing savegames and creation of new landscapes from scratch. The editor comes with six sample scenarios. Apart from that, it adds no new content to the game.

Artdink Corporation (株式会社アートディンク) is a Japanese developer of video games, based in Tsukishima, Tokyo.

By far Artdink's biggest international success was the award-winning A-Train (known in Japan as A Ressha de Ikou, or "Take the A-Train") strategy game released for the PC and Amiga, which was published by SimCity creators Maxis. A Family Computer and MSX versions were also released, both exclusively in Japan. Artdink have released several sequels to this game, the most recent being A-Train All Aboard! Tourism for Nintendo Switch.

A few other Artdink titles have seen US and PAL release from various publishers, including Aquanaut's Holiday (Sony), Carnage Heart (Sony), Turnabout (Natsume Inc./Zoo Digital), Tail of the Sun (Sony), AIV Global: Evolution (Sony) and No One Can Stop Mr. Domino! (Acclaim/JVC Music Europe) for the PlayStation. None of these titles have achieved mainstream success due to their unconventional nature.

The European publisher Midas Interactive obtained the rights to some of Artdink's PlayStation 2 games and published versions localised in English and other languages in PAL countries. Games released by Midas include Golful Golf (Mr. Golf), The Seed, Buchigire Kongou (Battle Construction Vehicles), and A Ressha de Ikou 6 (A-Train 6).

Maxis is an American video game developer and a division of Electronic Arts. The studio was founded in 1987 by Will Wright and Jeff Braun, and acquired by EA in 1997. Maxis is best known for its simulation games, including The Sims, Spore and SimCity.

It started as a proprietary PC variant intended for multimedia applications and PC games, but later became more compatible with IBM PC compatibles. In 1993, the FM Towns Marty was released; it is a game console compatible with existing FM Towns games.</p>
<p>The "FM" part of the name means "Fujitsu Micro" like their earlier products, while the "Towns" part is derived from the code name the system was assigned while in development, "Townes". This refers to Charles Townes, one of the winners of the 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics, following a custom of Fujitsu at the time to code name PC products after Nobel Prize winners. The e in "Townes" was dropped when the system went into production to make it clearer that the term was to be pronounced like the word "towns" rather than the potential "tow-nes".[2]</p>
