After the success of Star Fox, Nintendo decided to make a sequel on the same system. However, with the release of the Nintendo 64 looming close, Nintendo decided to cancel the game despite it being nearly complete. Many features of this game were later reused in Star Fox 64, most notably Star Wolf, and the game itself was later leaked as source code and compiled into a working ROM.
The game was later released for the SNES Classic console as an unlockable game, marking its first official release. Since then, the game was also released for the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Resident Evil was planned for a GameBoy Color adaptation in a project outsourced to British company HotGen Studios, Ltd. Intended for an Autumn 1999 release, it was repeatedly delayed due to programming issues, and ultimately cancelled in March 2000 in favour of M4, Ltd.'s alternate proposal for a new game made from the ground-up for the console, which became Resident Evil: Gaiden.

Allison Road

Allison Road is a survival horror game developed in Unreal Engine 4, played in first person view with optional Oculus Rift support.

You will take on the role of the unnamed protagonist who wakes up one day without any recollection of prior events. Over the course of five nights It is your objective to uncover the whereabouts of your family, unravel the mysteries of the house, and face off against Lily and other dark entities that are nested deep within the house, while the clock is relentlessly ticking towards 3:00am.

What would you do if you could feel something stalking you in the dark in the safety of your own home?
If you couldn't tell what's real and what's not?

Allison Road combines old-school survival horror and adventure game mechanics with next-gen graphics and optional VR support.

The game was initially developed by one person but then the team slowly grew to its current size of 6 people.

Renegade Kid's new episodic Horror-FPS originally planned for the Nintendo 3DS eShop. On April 2, 2014 Renegade Kid announced the game was evolved into a console game and went to Kickstarter while the 3DS version has been canceled. The game will be made even if the Kickstarter fails but it will take a lot longer, according to Renegade Kid.

Jazz Jackrabbit 3 (alternatively called Jazz Jackrabbit 3D or simply Jazz3D, subtitled Adventures of a Mean Green Hare) is the unreleased third installment in the Jazz Jackrabbit series. Spearheaded by Dean "Noogy" Dodrill (an animator for Jazz Jackrabbit 2) and coded by World Tree Games, it was developed for the original Unreal Engine technology in 1999. Like many other mascot characters of the late 90s, Jazz would venture into the realm of 3D for the first time.

The game was originally slated to be released in 2000, but since Epic was unable to find a publisher the game was ultimately cancelled. Gathering of Developers, which published Jazz Jackrabbit 2, refused to publish this game due to reportedly low sales of Jazz 2.

A playable Alpha Demo exists online.

Mortal Kombat HD Arcade Kollection

Before the announcement of Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection, different online stores started listing Mortal Kombat HD: Arcade Kollection. It was supposed to include Mortal Kombat 1, Mortal Kombat II and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, just like the released version. However unlike the released version, the cancelled HD-Version also had new sounds and completely new graphics with new actors portraying the characters in HD.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3 is a canceled video game in the Knights of the Old Republic series and is a follow up to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.

The game would feature hubs, with additional circuit of hubs where you could choose which ones you optionally wanted to do to complete in that hub, or you could do them all.

Rayman

This is a cancelled version of Rayman for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, for which the game was being previously developed. An early prototype was dumped on the internet in 2017, containing a short and simple level to showcase Rayman's abilities and animations.

Two Worlds: The Temptation

Two Worlds: The Temptation was to be the sequel to Two Worlds, but has since been canceled and replaced with Two Worlds II, which uses an all-new engine.

Untitled Black Panther Game

A game involving Black Panther was announced during the 57th anniversary celebration of the character. It was the first project for EA's novel studio, Cliffhanger Games, announced as an original, third-person, single-player Black Panther game in collaboration with Marvel Games.

The project was cancelled in May 2025 following the closure of the studio.

Eternal Darkness

Reportedly, when Nintendo saw Silicon Knights' survival horror title at a trade show, they quickly set the wheels in motion to bring the company in as a second party. Development of Eternal Darkness continued on the Nintendo 64 for a short time before being ported to the GameCube as Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

The Nintendo 64 version seemed to contain at least one playable character who only appeared as a bit-part in the final game: a knight named DeMolay. There appear to have been many other chapters cut from the final game as well, suggesting that Silicon Knights intended the game to have further sequels. Unfortunately, these also failed to appear.

Before being officially released in 2011, Duke Nukem Forever had demos and promotional images and videos released to the public, which had gameplay different from what ended up being released, since the game went through a 14 years long development hell and technology changed during this period. The build from the 2001 E3 that was leaked online in May of 2022, and it's one of the most known pre-release versions of the game.

Super Mario 64 Disk Version

Super Mario 64 Disk Version is a prototype disk that was created for display at Nintendo’s Shoshinkai show in 1996, to help promote the 64DD add-on, but never received a general release. The game itself is only slightly different to the cartridge version that had been released in Japan some months prior, with an altered castle theme, the omission of the famous 3D Mario head and a couple of game-breaking bugs in Tiny Huge Land.

Halo Online

Halo Online was a free-to-play multiplayer-only Halo game that was tested exclusively in Russia.

The game was cancelled on August 24, 2016, when the developer, Saber Interactive, announced that "the current form of Halo Online will not be released." The reason they gave for the cancellation was that Microsoft had "failed to [make] decisions on the future of the project."

Jurassic Park: Survival

Planned to coincide with Jurassic Park 3, Survival was to see players take on dinosaurs and terrorists alike as they fought to escape Isla Sorna. The game, however, quickly went extinct.

Dragon King: The Fighting Game

Dragon King: The Fighting Game was an unfinished low budget 3D fighting game, and was the first in a planned series of fighting video games. The game was developed for the Nintendo 64, where it was to make unique use of the joystick on the controller. After deciding to use Nintendo characters to give it a more proper atmosphere on the Nintendo 64, the game later became Super Smash Bros.

In 2022, Masahiro Sakurai presented in his own YouTube Channel some footage of the game, with the official title localization of "Dragon King: The Fighting Game".

Sonic X-treme

Originally designed for the Sega Genesis, then the 32x, and finally the Saturn, Sonic X-treme was meant to be the first fully realized 3D Sonic title. It was eventually cancelled in 1997 after spending a year in development hell.
