Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection

The compilation features 48 Sega games (49 counting two versions of Altered Beast) which were previously released for the Mega Drive/Genesis (including most of the Sonic the Hedgehog titles released for the system), arcade and Sega Master System. It is similar to the Sega Genesis Collection released previously for the PlayStation 2 and PSP, however it contains 16 (in NTSC regions) more games (including unlockable extras).

Zaxxon

Zaxxon is a 1982 isometric shooter arcade game developed and released by Sega. The game gives the player the experience of flying a fighter craft through a fortress while shooting at enemy entities (missiles, enemy gunfire, etc.) The object of the game is to hit as many targets as possible without being shot down or running out of fuel, which can be replenished paradoxically, by blowing up fuel drums.

Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000

This 32X-exclusive sci-fi shooter is similar gameplay-wise to Sega's arcade game Zaxxon. The graphics consist of a diagonally scrolling playfield which creates a pseudo 3D environment. The backgrounds are drawn using 2D scrolling planes, but the enemy and ship objects are drawn using 3D flat-shaded polygons.

Although the basic goal of each of the 9 levels is to shoot everything without getting shot, the game has a strategic element. Your basic spacecraft has very little firepower, and can only sustain one hit. To make matters worse, there are very few power-ups. In order to survive, you have to jump on top of enemies and take control of their weapons systems. This system allows for a large variety of player-controllable ships.

Super Zaxxon

You pilot an attack shuttle whose mission is to strafe the enemy's "Asteroid City". Destroy fuel tanks, gun implacements, missiles, fighters and a large dragon. The game uses the same isometric perspective as the original, but the new version's overall speed is much faster.

Zaxxon 3-D

The enemy has built battle fortresses in the farthest reaches of space. There's only one way in... and one way out. Your Mission: To infiltrate the enemy's defenses and destroy their motherships!

This version of the game uses a third person perspective as opposed to the isometric view of the original arcade game.

The handheld version of Zaxxon is a portable LCD game manufactured by Bandai with a license from Sega. It was released in 1982, and is based on the arcade game, Zaxxon.

This system uses a "double panel" LCD screen, one to simulate the first section of the game (set in space) and another for one of the space stations. Aside from a similar perspective, handheld Zaxxon is very little like the arcade game - the player cannot move upwards or downwards, and many of the memorable scenery in the game (such as the brick walls and turrets) were omitted due to hardware restraints. In essance this turns Zaxxon into a fairly standard LCD shoot-'em-up game, where players move left and right shooting foes before being hit.

Ikegami Tsushinki Co., Ltd. (池上通信機株式会社, Ikegami Tsūshinki Kabushiki-gaisha) (TYO: 6771) is a Japanese manufacturer of professional and broadcast television equipment, especially professional video cameras, both for electronic news gathering and studio use. The company was founded in 1946.

In the early 1980s, Ikegami developed arcade video games as a subcontractor to Japanese video game companies. Among the games they developed are Computer Othello, Block Fever, Monkey Magic, Congo Bongo, Popeye, Donkey Kong, Radar Scope, Sheriff, Space Fever, Space Firebird, Space Demon, Heli Fire, Sky Skipper, Space Launcher, and Zaxxon. At that time, computer programs were not recognized as copyrightable material. According to these sources, Ikegami proceeded to sue Nintendo for unauthorized duplication of the Donkey Kong program code for the latter's creation of Donkey Kong Junior (1983, Tokyo District Court), but it was not until 1989 that the Tokyo High Court gave a verdict that acknowledged the originality of program code. In 1990, Ikegami and Nintendo reached a settlement, terms of which were never disclosed.

Coleco Industries, Inc. (/kəˈliːkoʊ/) was an American company founded in 1932 by Maurice Greenberg as The Connecticut Leather Company.

It was a successful toy company in the 1980s, mass-producing versions of Cabbage Patch Kids dolls and its video game consoles, the Coleco Telstar dedicated consoles and ColecoVision.

While the company ceased operations in 1988 as a result of bankruptcy, the Coleco brand was revived in 2005, and remains active to this day. In 2005, River West Brands, now Dormitus Brands, a Chicago-based brand revitalization company, re-introduced the Coleco brand to the marketplace. In late 2006, the company introduced the Coleco Sonic, a handheld system containing twenty Master System and Game Gear games, including two from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. In 2014, River West Brands established the subsidiary Coleco Holdings for their Coleco-branded projects.

Sega Enterprises, Ltd. was the company that resulted from the merger of Nihon Goraku Bussan and Rosen Enterprises. This company was acquired by Gulf+Western in 1969, put under the control of Sega Enterprises, Inc. in 1974, and then sold to CSK in 1984. It also acquired Esco Boueki. While owned by CSK, Sega Enterprises established an American subsidiary still in operation. Sega Enterprises would change its name to Sega Corporation on November 1, 2000.

The company purchased Gremlin Industries in 1978. This company, eventually becoming "Sega Electronics" was sold to Bally Midway in 1983.

In April 1984 Sega's Japanese arm was purchased by a group of investors including Hayao Nakayama, David Rosen and Isao Okawa, becoming a subsidiary of CSK. The remaining American Sega assets owned by Gulf+Western would then be absorbed; SEI became Simon & Schuster Entertainment Software, Inc. on March 18, 1985 before becoming a shell company, Ages Entertainment Software, Inc. on August 30 of the same year.
