Wolfpack

Wolfpack is a World War II submarine simulator published by Brøderbund in the 1990s, for Amiga, Atari ST, MS-DOS, and Macintosh. It simulates combat actions between wolf packs of German U-boats and convoys of Allied destroyers and merchant vessels in the Battle of the Atlantic.

Historically, Great Britain being an island nation has been one of it's great strengths. However, with the development of the submarine, that strength also exposed a vulnerability. Britain was absolutely dependent on its maritime lifeline, a lifeline the Germans had nearly severed in the Great War, and one they would attack with even more fury in the Second World War. 
 
Wolfpack covers the battles over that lifeline, not only from the perspective of the U-Boats, but also that of the escort commanders on their cold and lonely vigils in the North Atlantic. 
 
Can you bring down the transports that carried the very life blood of Britain? Can you keep the hunters of the sea away, and keep your charges safe?

Naval Campaigns Midway

For six months following its surprise attack on the American fleet at Pearl Harbor, the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) had dominated the war in the Pacific. But 4 June 1942 would see the tide turn, with three US Navy (USN) aircraft carriers waiting in ambush for the IJN near a tiny atoll whose name would become immortalized in history: Midway. 
 
By the end of that day, the Japanese would lose four fleet carriers, and the course of the war would drastically change. 
 
Naval Campaigns: Midway covers not only this action but also other major carrier battles of World War Two, including Midway, Pearl Harbor, Coral Sea, Eastern Solomons, Santa Cruz and Philippine Sea. 
 
Can you, as the fleet commander, sail your fleet and fly your air forces to victory, or will you be plunged beneath the deep blue waves never to be heard from again?

Naval Campaigns Guadalcanal

During the 1942-43 campaign for the southern Solomon Island of Guadalcanal, many naval battles were fought to cement the material advantage gained by the Allies after the stunning Japanese losses at the Battle of Midway. Guadalcanal Naval Battles includes these scenarios such as Savo Island--a costly Allied setback, Cape Esperance--where the Japanese were struck back hard, Tassafaronga, Cape St. George, Kolombangara, and others. The full range of surface naval warfare in the Pacific during World War II is addressed allowing you the chance to see how you might perform as either Japanese or American commander.

Naval Campaigns Jutland

The Fighting in the First World War had been going on for two years. Despite the fact that enormous ground combat had occurred during that time, the powerful naval forces of the world had not clashed in full force. But in May of 1916, that was about to change. The huge dreadnoughts of the English and German fleets departed from their ports to seek each other in the North Sea west of the area of Danish Jutland. In those misty waters, filled with uncertainty, the outcome of the First World War hung in the balance. Will the German fleet crush the English and obtain a German victory at sea or will the stronger English fleet prevail?

Naval Campaigns Kriegsmarine

In May, 1941 the German Battleship Bismarck sailed into the North Atlantic to challenge the British control of the seas, and threaten her vital convoy routes. That journey would be the stuff of legends, as the Bismarck would blow up the HMS Hood off Iceland, before being run down while making a break for France. However, that was only a small part of the bitter battles fought between the Kriegsmarine and the Royal Navy during the war.

The war between Germany and Great Britain would not only be marked with the thunder of battleship guns, but the explosion of torpedoes launched from Schnellboot against coastal traffic in the English Channel.

In Kriegsmarine you can control the German fleet in actions like the Battle of Denmark Strait, North Cape, or Narvik. You can raid Allied shipping in the Atlantic, North Sea and Baltic while they try to hunt you down and stop you. You can also control the Allied navies leading the hunt to send the Kriegsmarine to the bottom of the ocean floor. The choice is up to you!

Naval Campaigns Spanish-American War

The Spanish-American War of 1898 marked the rise of one Great Power and the fall of another. This conflict, spurred on by colonial ambitions and the infamous destruction of the USS Maine, was decided at sea in two short and brutally decisive engagements at Manila Bay and Santiago de Cuba. With no ability to support their troops abroad, Spain admitted defeat within just five months.

The war took place during a period of unprecedented changes in naval technology and doctrine, with stark differences from one ship to the next. Both sides suffered from a variety of unforeseen challenges, be it from lack of experience or preparedness. In the end, the numerical, qualitative and home-field advantages carried the day for the United States.

But what if events had turned out differently? In addition to the two historical and rather one-sided battles, this game also depicts many hypothetical situations in which commanders made different decisions at key moments or had more resources to work with. Spanish soldiers fought gallantly even with their serious handicaps. When given better tools and tactics, perhaps they could have changed the course of history?

NovaLogic, Inc. was a software developer and publisher established in 1985 and based in Calabasas, California. The company was founded by CEO John A. Garcia. Garcia's background in computer software started in Southern California in the early 1980s, when he worked at Datasoft. The company was known for their Voxel Space engine, which was utilized in franchises such as the Comanche and Delta Force series. In October 2016, NovaLogic's assets were bought out by THQ Nordic and is currently an inactive label for the company.

Brøderbund began in the early 1980s in Eugene, Oregon. Galactic Empires, Prince of Persia and Lode Runner had an immediate impact on the gaming industry. Successes grew and continued for years, Myst ranked as the highest grossing home computer game. The company was dissolved shortly after acquisition by The Learning Company (formerly SoftKey) though its name persists as one of the company's several brands.
