Vanguard

Vanguard is a shoot 'em up game which leads the player through five different zones to the City of Mystery where the creature Gond awaits him which he has to kill. The five zones run horizontally as well as vertically and are filled with different enemies for each zone. Being hit by an enemy, a projectile or the walls results in losing a life. There are, however, collectable items which grant the player a short time of invincibility.
Shooting differs somewhat from other shoot 'em ups: The player's ship is able to fire in all four directions depending on the direction the player steers his ship. However, in doing so, the ship flies in that direrction as well which may result in crashing into an obstacle. The ship is constantly running out of fuel which can be replenished by killing enemies. After defeating Gond the game starts anew on a higher difficulty level.

Vanguard 2

Vanguard II was produced by SNK in 1984.

Vanguard 2 defends the planet from an attacking alien space platform that is defended by enemy spacecraft. The Fire button handles air-to-air combat but it takes the Missile button to destroy the continually moving space platform below.

The original Atari, Inc., founded in Sunnyvale, California, in 1972 by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney, was a pioneer in arcade games, home video game consoles, and home computers. The company's products, such as Pong and the Atari 2600, helped define the electronic entertainment industry from the 1970s to the mid-1980s.

Negotiating until close to midnight on July 1, 1984, Jack Tramiel purchased the home computing and game console divisions of Atari for $240 million in promissory notes and stocks. Warner gained a 20% stake in Tramel Technologies, which was renamed Atari Corporation. Warner retained the arcade division, continuing it under the name Atari Games, but sold it to Namco in 1985. Warner also sold the Ataritel division to Mitsubishi.

SNK Corporation (株式会社SNK, Kabushiki-gaisha Esu Enu Kē)[7] is a Japanese video game hardware and software company. It is the successor to the company Shin Nihon Kikaku and presently owns the SNK video game brand and the Neo Geo video game platform, and electronics.

SNK is known for its creation of the Neo Geo family of arcade, home, and handheld game consoles in 1990. The Neo Geo line was halted in 2001 because financial troubles forced SNK Corporation to close in the same year. Anticipating the end of the company, Kawasaki established Playmore Corporation in 2001, which acquired all of the intellectual property of the first iteration of SNK Corporation. In 2003, Playmore Corporation was renamed to SNK Playmore Corporation. In 2016, SNK dropped the name Playmore from its logo and reintroduced its old slogan, "The Future Is Now", officially changing its corporate name back to SNK.

Centuri was the continuation of the amusement machine manufacturer Allied Leisure under new leadership. Allied Leisure had been through financial difficulties towards the end of the 1970's and were bought out by the Milton Koffman family in mid-1979.

Centuri was something of an oddity in the American amusement machine business because of their location. Unlike most coin op businesses in the country, which were either located in Chicago (Midway, Williams, Stern) or on the West Coast (Atari, Sega/Gremlin, Exidy, Cinematronics) Centuri was located in Hialeah, Florida.

By the time of the Koffman takeover Allied Leisure had barely released any games since 1976/77, and what had been released had been in very limited quantities. The new owners recruited a pair of coin-op veterans to head the newly reorganized company and change its focus – Ed Miller and Bill Olliges, president and vice president, respectively, of Taito America.

Under Miller and Olliges, Centuri would largely change its focus to importing and manufacturing games from international developers. Though industry veterans today, this was among the first games by SNK, Konami and Tehkan (Tecmo) that were brought to American shores. This led to a very rapid turnaround in the company's financial situation beginning in 1981.

Centuri's turnaround would, however, not be enough for the company to escape the downturn of the arcade industry in 1983-1984. Also, by the end of 1984 Centuri's most lucrative partner, Konami, was finally establishing their own US distribution. Deprived of the source of their most successful games, Centuri would close down its video game division in 1985. The company would continue in other fields, such as housing and seafood, for a few more years until completely shuttering in 1991.

Centuri

Polyvox is a Brazilian electronics company founded in 1967 that achieved great success in the 70s and 80s with the audio market. In 1979, the company became a subsidiary of Gradiente after being bought by the company. They were responsible for bringing the Atari 2600 to the country in 1983 before the brand was phased out at the beginning of the 90s.

In 2017, the brand was revived for releasing products in the audio market.
