Transport Tycoon Deluxe

Transport Tycoon Deluxe was released in 1995, and featured new varieties of landscape and weather, new scenarios, more vehicles and allowed the player to run their company all the way from the year 1950 up to the year 2050.

Released on PC in 1994. Developed by Chris Sawyer, and coded in X86 Assembly language, it was among the first in the relatively new 'tycoon' genre of games - simulations of business empires that the player founded, grew and took full control of.

Transport Tycoon saw the player running their transport empire from 1930 to 2030, with rail, road, sea and air transport available to help the player's expansion of their business. New technologies are introduced to the player at historically accurate times, and players could see first-hand how advancements changed the way their businesses were run.

Transport Tycoon is a business management simulation game where you can start your own transport company. Players use engineering and business skills to move precious cargo and thousands of passengers in order to make a profit. It's a first-class ticket to countless hours of rewarding and absorbing entertainment!
Transport Tycoon for mobile devices is a revitalized version of the original PC game, while still containing everything that made it a world-famous classic. You'll experience bigger, richer worlds, deeper and more addictive simulation, and the largest variety of land, sea and air vehicles ever assembled.

This is the page for the original company which was founded by Bill Stealey, Sid Meier, and Andy Hollis in 1982. It developed and published numerous games, including starting the Civilization and X-COM series. The is the original company which would be merged with Spectrum HoloByte (as MicroProse, Inc), bought by Hasbro Interactive, and later bought again by Infogrames Entertainment, SA. Under the last buyout the brand was gradually phased out and eventually went defunct.

In 2019, the MicroProse brand was revived by David Lagettie. The name of the new company is simply MicroProse.

Chris Sawyer is an independent game developer based in Scotland, specializing in constructional / strategic / simulation style games.

Chris entered the games industry in 1983, writing games in Z80 machine code on the Memotech MTX home computer, and then the Amstrad CPC series home computer.
From 1988 to 1993, Chris worked on PC conversions of Amiga games and was involved in many well-known projects, including Virus (1989), Campaign (1992), Birds of Prey (1992), Dino Dini's Goal (1993), and Frontier Elite 2 (1993).

Since 1993, Chris has been developing original games on the PC, the first of which was Transport Tycoon, released through Microprose in 1994. A 'World Editor' version of Transport Tycoon followed in mid-1995, followed by Transport Tycoon Deluxe at the end of that year.

Chris's second big project was RollerCoaster Tycoon, released through Hasbro Interactive early in 1999, followed by two add-on packs Added Attractions / Corkscrew Follies in late 1999 and Loopy Landscapes in September 2000. RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 soon followed and was released through Infogrames Interactive in 2002.

The long-awaited sequel to Transport Tycoon, Chris Sawyer's Locomotion, was finally completed and released through Atari in October 2004
