Spelunker

A miner has to find the exit to a world of wonders that is deep in the ground. During his journey he has to collect bombs to destroy rocks in his way, collect keys to open doors and pick up little potions that refresh his timer. Treasure chests can be opened for bonus items.

Spelunker II: Yuusha he no Chousen

Spelunker II: Yuusha he no Chousen is a Japan-exclusive action video game released for the Family Computer in 1987. An unofficial translation to English was made as a ROM hack.

Despite being titled as a sequel to Spelunker, Spelunker II: Yūsha e no Chōsen features vastly different gameplay. There was a separate arcade sequel, titled Spelunker II: 23 no Kagi, which features similar gameplay to the first Spelunker game as well. The two Spelunker II games are separate entries in the series and are not related.

Spelunker HD, which was released for PlayStation 3 in 2009 and won the PlayStation Store Special Award at the PlayStation Awards that year, has been revived with a full remake on PlayStation 4 and Switch as Ganso Minna de Spelunker.

Ganso Minna de Spelunker is an action game in which the cave explorer Spelunker, said to be “the weakest chracter in video game history,” explores caves full of mystery. With 100 stages consisting of abandoned mines, underground lakes, ancient ruins, glaciers, and more, Spelunker’s goal is to reach the depths of each cave.

Caves are full of dangers including natural terrain, cave creatures, and malicious traps—and enemies and traps that appear to be traces of an unknown civilization will appear in the latter half of the cavern. Spelunker must overcome these obstacles by properly utilizing items such as bombs, flares, portable fans, and more, as well as his jump technique.

But be cautious, as Spelunker is quite weak! If you fall from your own height, or get hit by bat poop, you will die. Spelunker’s weakness, or his “fragile constitution,” gives the game a moderate sense of tension and rhythm, making it more interesting as an action game.

Brøderbund began in the early 1980s in Eugene, Oregon. Galactic Empires, Prince of Persia and Lode Runner had an immediate impact on the gaming industry. Successes grew and continued for years, Myst ranked as the highest grossing home computer game. The company was dissolved shortly after acquisition by The Learning Company (formerly SoftKey) though its name persists as one of the company's several brands.

Irem is a Japanese video game console developer and publisher, and formerly a developer and manufacturer of arcade games as well. The company has its headquarters in Hakusan, Ishikawa Prefecture.

The company is probably best known for Moon Patrol, the famous scrolling shooter R-Type and the earliest beat 'em up, Kung-Fu Master. They have been a popular developer in Japan with games like Photoboy for the PC Engine and In the Hunt for the arcades, Sega Saturn, PlayStation, and PC. Irem is also known for making their arcade games extremely difficult, and most of them feature a dip switch that allows you to play a "no death mode" as a result, in order to allow gamers to be able to complete their tough games.

As a result of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, Irem canceled the majority of its remaining video game projects, including Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 4: Summer Memories and Poncotsu Roman Daikatsugeki Bumpy Trot 2. Irem re-focused to become primarily a slot-machine and pachinko developer, the industry it was in before turning to video games. Its video game division was dissolved in April 2011 and many Irem designers, including producer Kazuma Kujo, gathered to form a new company called Granzella to continue creating games.
