Not to be confused with the similarly-named American book publisher Random House.

Random House Co., Ltd. (株式会社ランダムハウス) was established by programmer Kazuro Morita (森田和郎) on April 15, 1983 in Saitama, Japan after winning Enix's first game programming competition with Morita's Battle Field. Author and game designer Yuto Ramon (羅門祐人), alias Yuhei Yamaguchi (山口祐平) was also a founding member; Ramon left the company in 1986 to establish Artec. The company was unrelated to the American book publisher of the same name.

Random House ceased operations in 1999, with all assets and staff being transferred to a new company called Yuki Enterprise. At this point, Morita stepped down as company head, though he continued working with Yuki Enterprise as a programmer.

Morita was a devoted board game player, and was highly-ranked in Shogi, Go, and Othello. Fittingly, many of Random House's titles were digital versions of board games, often bearing Morita's name and featuring his own play algorithms; he even published a book about how to design such algorithms, including source code for his Othello game. He passed away in July 2012.

Random House

A former subsidiary of Japanese developer & publisher Random House, most active during the late '80s. Artec's lead developer, author Yuto Ramon, founded it in 1986 to make various RPGs, rather than Random House co-founder Kazuro Morita's shogi games. The group developed primarily on Japanese PCs, but lent support to console adaptations of Ramon's works, such as Minelvaton Saga and GDLeen. Artec dissolved around 1992 after Ramon left to pursue his writing career. Other creators in the studio, such as programmer Yoshihiko Hyodo, separated at this point.

Full Release

The continent of Riglas is inhabited by two races: the Mirians and the Galtians. For years they have fought each other for dominance. Caught in the struggle between the two is the nearly forgotten Osborn race, discriminated and enslaved. Mei, a young Osborn man, leaves his home village in order to free his people, and to discover the forbidden secrets of Beljuna which remain a taboo in this land.

This side-scrolling action role-playing adventure is set in a vast seamless world that consists of interconnected yet varied urban, wilderness, and dungeon-like locations. Players can explore all of Riglas from the outset, a world populated by many different types of friendly and hostile characters. Killing hostiles increases the player's score and eventually makes the main character stronger. Killing friendlies, on the other hand, may lower the score. Combat is simple: approach a character and press the attack button to swing Mei's sword.
