Vulture for NetHack is an isometric graphical interface for the roguelike engine: NetHack. Wrapping the original ASCII text dungeons of NetHack, Vulture brings this great game into the graphical point and click world while still preserving the original keyboard commands for those wishing to play as it was intended.

Nethack: Falcon's Eye

Falcon's Eye is a graphic and interface update to Nethack that keeps the core game play elements the same. The project was abandoned in 2005 and has been superseded by Vulture's Eye.

The main goals of xNetHack are to take vanilla NetHack and:

1. Fix gameplay balance issues.
2. Remove tedious and frustrating parts of the game.
3. Make uninteresting parts of the game more interesting.
4. Experiment with new ideas from the community.

iNetHack

iNetHack is a port of NetHack 3.4.3 for iOS developed by Dirk Zimmermann.

DNetHack

dNetHack is a NetHack variant based on NetHack 3.4.3. The name stands for Dungeons and Extra-Terrestrials Hack (DnET-Hack).

EvilHack

EvilHack is a variant initially based on NetHack 3.6.2, created by Keith Simpson.

UnNetHack is a variant of NetHack initially based off NetHack 3.4.3, and is maintained by Patric Mueller and others

NetHack

Hack

The object of the game is to delve into a dungeon to retrieve the Amulet of Yendor, and perish with as much game points as possible. The player can start out with a different ability set, such as Wizard or Cave(wo)man. The player confronts various monsters: hobgoblins, leprechauns, acid blobs, bats, centaurs, chameleons, dragons, ghosts, imps, trolls, and has weapons, armor, potions, wands, rings and special items to aid in this, e.g. related to fire there is a scroll, a ring, a monster and a wand, and their interplay is to be discovered.

There is time pressure because you die if your food runs out, food is scattered around the dungeon. There is a limit to what you can carry, forcing you to leave valuable items behind. The gold and gems you carry when you die increases your score, but it is heavy too.

The player must enter Hell to recover the Amulet. Entering Hell for the uninitiated just means that "you burn to a crisp". (In NetHack, Hell is renamed.)

The player encounters special rooms such as shops, crypts, and vaults. Other spatial elements in the game are traps and swamps. As your experience grows, so are your abilities, score and the need for food.

Retrieving the Amulet doesn't guarantee you the high score. After all the Amulet is just a very valuable gem.

NetHack is a single-player roguelike video game originally released in 1987 with ASCII graphics. It is a descendant of an earlier game called Hack, which was inspired by Rogue. The player chooses a character race and class; their mission is to retrieve the Amulet of Yendor in a randomly generated dungeon.
