Moon Cresta (Major Wave Arcade Hits)

Nichibutsu Arcade Classics

Nichibutsu Arcade Classics is a compilation for the Super Famicom and Sony PlayStation released in 1995. It features three of Nichibutsu's (or Nihon Bussan) Arcade games from the early 80s, adapted for consoles but otherwise left as-is. Contract developers Syscom were brought in to make the adaptations.

It was followed up by Nichibutsu Arcade Classics 2, which contained the original 1979 Arcade version of Heiankyo Alien and a graphically enhanced remake.

The games included are Crazy Climber (An action game where the protagonist scales a building. Best known for its complex controls that independently control each hand), Frisky Tom (An action game where the protagonist has to maintain a plumbing system and protect it from rogue rats), and Moon Cresta (A single-screen shoot 'em up similar to Galaxian in which the player's ship can dock with larger ships between stages to become more powerful).

Faithful reproduction of the arcade cabinet "Astro City" at 1/6 size. At the time of the original release, this was released as a resin console. Similar to the original "Astro City" the main body is reproduced with resin. By adopting a 4.6-inch vertical LCD monitor, the original design arcade cabinet is now the size of your palm!

Terra Cresta

Terra Cresta is a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up. The player controls a ship, initially with limited firepower. Numbered pods appear containing further parts of the ship that will increase firepower. These additional parts combine with the player's ship to increase its firepower, and the final module transforms it into a fiery phoenix which is invulnerable for a certain period of time. Once the ship has multiple sections, the player may also split it, allowing it to fire in multiple directions.

The player begins with three lives and it is possible to play with either one or two players.

Moon Cresta

Moon Cresta is an arcade game released in 1980 by Nichibutsu. A moving starfield gives the impression of vertical scrolling, but the game is a fixed shooter in the vein of Namco's Galaxian.

Incentive Software published a version of this arcade game for many 8-bit home computers of the time. Dempa also released a port of both Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta for the X68000. It was also released on the Wii Virtual Console in Japan on March 9, 2010 and PlayStation 4 (Arcade Archives) in 2014.

Terra Cresta II: Mandler no Gyakushuu

Terra Cresta II, or Terra Cresta II: Mandler no Gyakushuu, is a vertical-scrolling shoot 'em up and the sequel to Nichibutsu's earlier Terra Cresta, which in turn was a sequel to Moon Cresta. Unlike the original, Terra Cresta II skipped the Arcade and was released on the PC Engine.

The game uses a distinct power-up system where the player is acquiring additional modules for their spaceship. These modules can be configured in two ways: one configuration has them connected directly to the ship, increasing its firepower, where the second has them separate from the central ship to increase their coverage. Before starting, the player can choose which direction the ship modules will fire in and the positions they take around the central ship when separated. Through this system, the player can fine-tune the amount of coverage their bullets will reach.

As the game's title implies, Terra Cresta is now in 3D. This title was a Saturn exclusive.

Sol Cresta takes the docking and formation strategies of classic shooting games Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta and elevates them with the “free-form docking” system. The flagship Yamato, composed of the ships Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susano can utilize various attacks depending on how the three ships are aligned. Docking, splitting, and reforming the ships as needed is the key to defeating the invading armies of Mandler.

Arcade Archives: Moon Cresta is a port of the shooting game Moon Cresta. Players control Unit1 and Unit 2 and Unit3 of the airplane, and coalescing these airplanes, will defeat the enemies.

Centuri was the continuation of the amusement machine manufacturer Allied Leisure under new leadership. Allied Leisure had been through financial difficulties towards the end of the 1970's and were bought out by the Milton Koffman family in mid-1979.

Centuri was something of an oddity in the American amusement machine business because of their location. Unlike most coin op businesses in the country, which were either located in Chicago (Midway, Williams, Stern) or on the West Coast (Atari, Sega/Gremlin, Exidy, Cinematronics) Centuri was located in Hialeah, Florida.

By the time of the Koffman takeover Allied Leisure had barely released any games since 1976/77, and what had been released had been in very limited quantities. The new owners recruited a pair of coin-op veterans to head the newly reorganized company and change its focus – Ed Miller and Bill Olliges, president and vice president, respectively, of Taito America.

Under Miller and Olliges, Centuri would largely change its focus to importing and manufacturing games from international developers. Though industry veterans today, this was among the first games by SNK, Konami and Tehkan (Tecmo) that were brought to American shores. This led to a very rapid turnaround in the company's financial situation beginning in 1981.

Centuri's turnaround would, however, not be enough for the company to escape the downturn of the arcade industry in 1983-1984. Also, by the end of 1984 Centuri's most lucrative partner, Konami, was finally establishing their own US distribution. Deprived of the source of their most successful games, Centuri would close down its video game division in 1985. The company would continue in other fields, such as housing and seafood, for a few more years until completely shuttering in 1991.

Centuri

Taito Corporation is a Japanese company that specializes in video games, toys, arcade cabinets and game centers, based out of Shinjuku, Tokyo. The company was founded by Michael Kogan in 1953 as the Taito Trading Company, importing vodka, vending machines and jukeboxes into Japan. It began production of video games in 1973. In 2005, Taito was purchased by Square Enix, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary by 2006.

Taito is recognized as an important player in the early days of video games, producing several hit games such as Space Invaders, Bubble Bobble, Lufia, Arkanoid, and Darius. Alongside Konami, Namco and Sega, it is one of the most prominent video game companies from Japan and the first that exported its games into other countries. Several of its games have since been recognized as important and revolutionary for the industry - Space Invaders in particular was a major contributor to the growth of video games in the mid-1970s, and the aliens featured in the games are seen as iconic emblems within the video game industry.

The company maintains a chain of arcade centers, known as "Game Taito Stations", across Japan, alongside being a manufacturer of toys, plush dolls and UFO-catcher prizes.

Nihon Bussan Co. Ltd. was a Japanese video game developer and publisher headquartered in Kita, Osaka. In the past they had also manufactured and sold yachts.

The main video game brand of the company was Nichibutsu (日物、ニチブツ), with adult video games (mainly strip mahjong arcade games) coming under the Sphinx (スフィンクス) brand. The company used a horned owl for its official logo.

In March 2014, Nihon Bussan sold its video game library to Hamster Corporation due to the decision of original founder Sueharu Torii to retire. The company was disbanded on December 15, 2015.
