The game itself consists of four levels: •The first level has you behind a defensive shield, defending against an alien attack. The level is a top-down view, with your ship & shield on one side and the aliens on the other side;

The second level is similar to the first, only your defensive shield is gone, and the enemies tend to swoop down over the level as opposed to those row formations. Bonus ships also tend to appear in this level;

The third level is a change, and has you entering hyperspace. Your only goal is to survive to the end of your journey. The viewpoint switches from a top-down view to a behind-the-ship view, and in effect you are heading "towards" your destination. Alien vessels flying in circular formation try to stop you;

The fourth and final level is similar to the first again, with some key differences. You do not fight a wave of enemies, but a single one. A mothership with a glowing weak spot, similar in some ways to the mothership level in the game Phoenix. Hitting the weak spot will instantly destroy it. The mothership also has that same shield that was yours in the first level.

Coleco Industries, Inc. (/kəˈliːkoʊ/) was an American company founded in 1932 by Maurice Greenberg as The Connecticut Leather Company.

It was a successful toy company in the 1980s, mass-producing versions of Cabbage Patch Kids dolls and its video game consoles, the Coleco Telstar dedicated consoles and ColecoVision.

While the company ceased operations in 1988 as a result of bankruptcy, the Coleco brand was revived in 2005, and remains active to this day. In 2005, River West Brands, now Dormitus Brands, a Chicago-based brand revitalization company, re-introduced the Coleco brand to the marketplace. In late 2006, the company introduced the Coleco Sonic, a handheld system containing twenty Master System and Game Gear games, including two from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. In 2014, River West Brands established the subsidiary Coleco Holdings for their Coleco-branded projects.

Midway Manufacturing was founded in 1958 in Chicago as a manufacturer of arcade amusement games. The company was purchased by pinball manucaturer Bally in 1969.

Midway was among the earliest companies to enter the video game market, producing their first game Winner in 1973 during the Pong arcade boom. Aside from a few early clones the company mostly relied on imports, contractors and other Bally-owned subsidiaries, such as Dave Nutting Associates, for designing their games. An internal team was established circa 1980-1981; their first game was Kick-Man, released in 1981.

In 1982 the company became Bally-Midway after Bally merged its pinball division into Midway.

CBS Electronics was a short-lived video game division of CBS Toys/Gabriel Industries founded in 1982 by CBS Inc. to market video games domestically and internationally. In the U.S., CBS Electronics was primarily known for their ports of several arcade games for the Atari 2600 and 5200 systems.

Outside the U.S., CBS Electronics was known primarily for their marketing of games by Coleco. CBS manufactured and distributed the ColecoVision system and its games in Europe, Australia, and elsewhere. They also marketed Coleco's games for the Atari 2600 VCS and Intellivision systems in these same territories.

CBS Electronics enjoyed some early success, but in late 1983 the video game industry began to crash, and CBS abruptly pulled the plug on their video game division.

Gorf actually consists in the Arcade version of five different types of space shooters. The first one ist basically is a Space Invaders clone. In the second one a formation of space ships is hovering at the top of the screen while single space ships will disengage from the formation and dive down at you. The third variant is a Glaxian clone and only available in the Arcade version. In the fourth mini-game the enemy will come out of a circular hyperspace field and attack you. After having destroyed four of your attackers the game proceeds to the fifth game stage. Here a huge mothership is dropping bombs at you from the top of the screen. You defeat the mothership with a well placed projectile hitting it between its two major sections. After that the game starts from the gebinning on a higher difficulty level.
